Dog Sled Advisory Council

The Kearney Dog Sled Race Advisory Council works to preserve the heritage of this exciting winter sport and to support international enthusiasm for competition, education, and awareness of these remarkable dogs. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that the event continues to grow, evolve, and welcome participants from across North America.

Purpose

To support the continued growth and success of the Kearney Dog Sled Races while preserving the heritage and traditions of dog sled racing in Kearney. The Dog Sled Race Advisory Council assists with the planning, organization, and delivery of the annual event and helps promote awareness and appreciation of the sport within the community and beyond.


Responsibilities of the Dog Sled Advisory Council

The overall responsibility of the Dog Sled Race Advisory Council is to provide input, recommendations, and volunteer support to the Community Engagement and Recreation Coordinator in the planning and delivery of the annual Kearney Dog Sled Races. This may include:

  1. Providing recommendations related to race programming, scheduling, activities, and event operations.
  2. Assisting with the planning and coordination of race activities, courses, participant registration, and other event logistics.
  3. Providing input on entertainment, vendors, family-friendly activities, and other attractions that contribute to the overall event experience.
  4. Supporting efforts to preserve and promote the history, traditions, and community significance of the Kearney Dog Sled Races.
  5. Assisting with the recruitment and engagement of volunteers, sponsors, mushers, vendors, community organizations, and other event partners.
  6. Identifying opportunities to enhance the event and improve the experience for mushers, spectators, volunteers, and visitors.
  7. Promoting the Kearney Dog Sled Races and acting as ambassadors for the event within the community and beyond.
  8. Providing feedback following the event and making recommendations to support the continued growth and success of future races.
  9. Providing volunteer assistance with event activities, special projects, setup, operations, and other areas as needed.
