Community Engagement Through Volunteer Advisory Councils
The Town of Kearney is modernizing its approach to community engagement by transitioning from formal Committees of Council to Volunteer Advisory Councils (VACs). This new model creates more flexible and accessible opportunities for residents to participate in shaping community events, programs, initiatives, and local priorities.
Volunteer Advisory Councils provide ideas, feedback, local knowledge, and volunteer support to help strengthen our community. Unlike formal committees, VACs focus on collaboration, community involvement, and project-based participation rather than governance and procedural requirements.
Supported by the Community Engagement and Recreation Coordinator, VACs serve as a bridge between residents and Council, ensuring community voices are heard while maintaining transparency and accountability. This approach reduces administrative barriers, encourages broader participation, and allows volunteers to focus on what matters most—building a vibrant, connected, and engaged community.
