Before starting any work, you must ensure the Town of Kearney has issued a building permit that you have picked up and posted at the entrance of the subject property. Please review the Building By-law 2024-09 respecting construction, demolition, change of use, conditional permits, and inspections.
Building Services Code of Conduct
The Building Services Code of Conduct is meant to:
- Promote good behaviour and actions by all Building Services staff, including the Chief Building Official and Building Inspectors
- Prevent an abuse of power, including unethical or illegal practices, by all Building Services staff
- Promote honesty in the services provided by all Building Services staff
- Provide an official process for submitting complaints to the Building Services department
Building Services staff must:
- Always act in support of public well-being
- Follow all relevant laws, codes and standards
- Keep their qualifications up to date, and perform work in line with their qualifications
- Be professional and polite
- Act in keeping with the Town’s Corporate Values of Integrity, Excellence, and Wellness
CBO Code of Conduct
ACCESSORY STRUCTURE UNDER 15 SQUARE METRES (161 SQUARE FEET)
Following the recent amendments of the Ontario Building Code (Ontario Regulation 451/22 Section 28), a shed intended for storage purposes only and is ancillary (accessory) to a principal building on a lot does not require a building permit providing that:
- It is not more than 15 square metres (161 square feet) in gross area;
- It is not more than one storey in building height;
- It is not attached to a building or any other structure, and
- It does not contain any plumbing
- It is not to be used for human habitation.
Note: An accessory structure must comply with the Ontario Building Code and the Town of Kearney’s Zoning By-Law. Please contact our Building Department to find out setback and lot coverage information as it relates to your property.
