Fire Rating: As of August 22, 2025, the fire danger level has been updated to MODERATE.
Daytime burning is strictly prohibited between 10:00am 6:00pm until October 31st.
Campfire regulations:
* Maximum size: 2 feet by 2 feet
* Fires must be attended at all times
* Never leave a fire unattended
* Always have water or a fire-extinguishing method nearby

Fire Permits – Required from April 1st to October 31st

The Town of Kearney requires that all property owners and camping visitors obtain a fire permit before proceeding with any outdoor fires regardless of whether you are burning at home, or at a designated campground. Anyone burning without a permit may be subject to fines. The size of fire is restricted to 2 feet x 2 feet. Residents must be in attendance when burning, do not leave fire unattended!

Three day permits can be obtained at the following locations:

Fetterley’s Garage
1770 Highway 518 East, Kearney

Kearney General Store
98 Main St., Kearney

Rickward’s Small Motors Inc.
1914 Hwy 518, Kearney

Full-season & special permits can only be obtained at the Fire Hall.
